With Valencia's excellent climate it's no surprise to find plenty of public outdoor spaces and parks. The newest and largest one being the beautiful Jardines del Turia.
Spanned by the futuristic Peineta Bridge (designed by Valencia architect Calatrava) the gardens cut through the centre of the city and run for nearly 7km along what was the bed of the River Turia. You'll find facilities for football and rugby as well as dedicated pathways for cyclists and joggers. Its spacious grassed areas and exotic flowers and fountains make it the perfect spot for relaxing.
The majority of towns and the larger villages will have their own municipal sports centres. You could usually expect provision for football, tennis, basket ball and swimming. Some will also
offer a gymnasium as well. Because most people don't finish work until 8, many are open until late at night (up to 12 midnight) and provide flood lighting at a small extra cost.
In addition, some urbanisations (housing developments) have private recreational facilities for residents. These are normally funded via a monthly community charge. Golf
enthusiasts are also well catered for, with several championship standard courses on the outskirts of the city.
