Valencia has many buildings of interest, both new and historical. Conveniently most are grouped fairly close together and a good way to see them is by taking the open topped Valencia Bus Turístico (Tel 96 342 02 85). The tour takes approximately 90 minutes and leaves from La Plaza de la Reina with a commentary in English.
Here are just a few examples of places to visit.
The 14th century Torres de Serranos and the Torres de Quart (built a century later) are twin towered stone gates and all that remain of the city walls from Valencia's Christian era. The walls were in fact demolished in the mid 19th century to allow for expansion of the city.
The Torres de Serranos (Plaza de los Fueros) over look the bed of the Turia and are open to the public (admission free). Originally the gateway to Barcelona and the north, the battlements afford excellent panoramic views. The Torres de Quart are at the western extremity of the old walls and look towards Madrid. Both structures have in the past also been used to incarcerate prisoners!
