Modern Valencia is at the cutting edge of design and construction. The city has some fine examples of contempary architecture. Sir Norman Foster's Palacio de Congresos and the Puente Calatrava (a bridge named after its Valencian architect Santiago Calatrava) to name just two.

A 'must see' though is the breathtaking Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias, also designed by local hero Calatrava. Situated in the riverbed of the Turia, south east of the centre, the site covers a whopping 350,000 sq metres. It has assumed the number one spot as Valencia's most visited attraction with nearly four million passing through the door each year.

The dominant building is the Museo de las Ciencias Principe Felipe which houses exhibits and inter-active displays. The design and sheer scale of the construction (based on the skeleton of a whale) is probably worth the admission price alone.
