Travel 15-20 minutes further along and you'll come to the popular resort of Cullera. Set against a beautiful mountain backdrop, it boasts a choice of five EU blue flag beaches. If you're prepared to venture a little further, you have Gandia, Oliva and finally the pretty port of Denia, which at 1.5 hours drive, is still viable as a day trip.
To the north of La Malvarossa is Playa Pucol. This attractive little town has very good sandy beaches, yet is still within 20-25 minutes direct drive of the city.
For a day out or weekend away, Peniscola in the province of Castellon takes a lot of beating. Used as a location in the film 'El Cid', the resort is famous for it's walled old quarter and imposing castle. Add to this 6km of sandy beaches and you'll begin to understand its appeal. Around 1.5 hours drive or rail journey from Valencia. Sitting right on the border to Catalunya and 20 minutes on from Peniscola is the lively town of Vinaros. There you'll find a selection of both shingle and sandy beaches as well as some truly breathtaking countryside.
