Náquera/Serra
Ramblers will enjoy the rugged mountain scenery around the pretty villages of Naquera and Serra, to the north of Valencia. Their elevated position on the Sierra Calderona makes them also very popular with racing cyclists. 30-35 minutes from Valencia by car or take the Metro to Bétera and then connecting bus service.
Peñíscola
Take the A7 and head north towards Barcelona (about 1.5 hours) to find the spectacular resort of Peñíscola. The walled old town juts out into the sea and so is surrounded by water on three sides. An impressive fortress, constructed on the highest point of the peninsula, dominates the sky line. The next time 'El Cid' comes on the television, take a look and you'll see Peñíscola in all it's glory! .
With its lovely sandy beach (6kms long) and quality restaurants, it makes a great destination for a weekend away.
Ricardo Tormo Circuit
For fans of motor sport The Ricardo Tormo circuit is located off the A3 motorway (exit319) near Cheste, about 35-40 minutes from the city by car. It's also accessible by train (RENFE) with a dedicated station open on race days. Services run from the main North station next to the bull ring. The 2.5 mile circuit is state of the art and is host to many major biking events as well as Formula 1 testing. It's hoped that in the future the circuit may secure the contract to stage the Spanish F1 Grand Prix which is currently run in Barcelona. See link opposite for more details of the circuit and events.
