Although the Spanish remain fiercely proud of their own cooking, in recent years they have become increasingly
adventurous and more open to overseas influence. This is largely because younger Spaniards have been afforded more opportunities to travel abroad than those of their parent's generation.
As a result of this, Valencia now has an excellent choice of restaurants offering highly imaginative cuisine with a
more international flavour.
During the day you'll find a wide variety of tapas available at most bars and in general, restaurants open for lunch
will offer a Menu del Día (menu of the day). You could usually expect a choice of three or four starters, main courses
and a sweet offered at a fixed price. This would also include a glass of beer, wine or water and normally represents
very good value compared to eating a la carte.
For an ethnic experience there are numerous Chinese restaurants offering cheap (if sometimes indifferent) fayre and
one or two noteworthy Japanese and Asian venues. There's a great selection of quality pizzerias (often with authentic stone
ovens) and a few very good Latin American themed restaurants.
