Refreshingly, trouble of any description (particularly violence) is almost unheard of. The biggest problem is probably petty theft, so excercise common sense and take care of personal belongings.
In terms of getting around at night, our advice would be to hail a taxi. Just a mention of any of the street names or areas highlighted in bold type should be enough to get you there!
Taking your car out for the evening in the city is not recommended. Parking is an absolute nightmare and, contrary to popular belief, drink driving is a serious offence in Spain. The police are currently attempting a crack down and are particularly targeting foreign tourists.
Bars and Cafes
A good place to start a night out is El Barrio del Carmen with its huge selection of restaurants, cafes and bars. In common with most of the popular areas around the city, you'll find a good mix of people and a wide range of ages all happily socialising together until the early hours.
